You can use magnum primers in large rifle rounds but I wouldn’t use large rifle primers in magnum rounds. I shot a 7/300 Weatherby for competition and used Fed210M primers with H1000 powder and did well.

Essentially a magnum primer burns with more intensity than a standard LR primer. They are intended for use in a larger case burning more powder (generally known as magnum cartridges, but not always).
